The Hunt For Favorite Trees of Chebeague

The Hunt for Favorite Trees of Chebeague Island - A Friend-Raiser for Chebeague and Cumberland Land Trust. Join Us Saturday, August 5, 12:00-3:00pm. Find the winning 17 Favorite Trees all over Chebeague.

When: Saturday, August 5, 12:00-3:00pm

Who: Families, kids, couples, singles, teams of any size

What: Find the winning 17 Favorite Trees all over Chebeague.

Proof of finding a tree will require three steps:

1) A selfie of your team with the tree.

2) Record of one fact from a report written about that tree by a student from the Chebeague Island School that you will find at the tree.

3) A quick sketch of its leaf.

How: Any way you want! By bicycle, car, skateboard, truck or by foot .

Where: Start at the Chebeague Library. Get your map (specially drawn by artist Jeanne Mullen) and the full rules of the Hunt at noon. There’s a clue there too: photos of all the trees by Stacie Webb, photographer.

Reward: If your team can prove that you have found 10 out of the 17 trees, your team will win a prize. The best selfie will be featured on the Chebeague Island and CCLT websites. When we know and value our land and our trees, everybody wins!!!

Background: Thirty-seven trees were nominated by island residents last October. A panel of judges picked 17 trees for their beauty, variety, and ease of access. Why 17? That is the number of students in our school old enough to interview homeowners about the trees. Two of the trees are on land protected by CCLT. On the day of the Hunt, flags will indicate that hunters have found their trees.

Form your teams! Sign up at the Library! Find our favorite trees!
