PROPERTY DESCRIPTION

This 35-acre permanently conserved forest consists of three properties: Littlefield Woods, Hamilton Durgin Woods, and Hayden Hill. CCLT worked to protect this land with the Bisharat, Durgin, and Hayden families from 2021 to 2024. Some of the trails are part of a historic cart path network dating back to the early 19th century.

Situated in the island’s center, this property serves as an essential water recharge area for the island’s aquifer, which is residents’ only drinking water source. The forest offers critical wildlife habitat, including a vernal pool and as a stopover site for migratory birds. It is dominated by white pines with lesser amounts of red maple, hemlock, red oak, and red pine, among other species.
